2:10 Nu te teme nicidecum de ce ai sa suferi. Iata ca diavolul are sa arunce in temnita pe unii din voi, ca sa va incerce. Si veti avea un necaz de zece zile. Fii credincios pana la moarte, si-ti voi da cununa vietii.

Nu te teme. Vezi comentariul de la Iacov 1,2; compara cu Ioan 16,33.

Ai sa suferi. Sau ,,esti pe punctul de a suferi”. Dupa cat se vede, biserica Smirna fusese o tinta importanta a batjocurilor iudeilor, dar membrii ei nu suferisera inca lovitura cea grea a persecutiei. Totusi, crestinii de acolo aflasera fara indoiala despre persecutie, care bantuise deja prin alte locuri, si trebuie sa se fi temut mai dinainte de necazurile lor viitoare. Lucrul acesta e sugerat de forma verbului tradus aici ,,a se teme”, care arata ca ei se temeau deja. Hristos ii consoleaza oferindu-le asigurarea ca, in ciuda perspectivei persecutiei, ei nu trebuiau sa fie infricosati. Vezi comentariul de la Matei 5,10–12.

Incerce. Sau ,,ispiteasca”. Satana avea sa aduca asupra lor persecutia, pentru a-i face sa renunte la credinta. Dumnezeu avea sa permita persecutia pentru a-i intari si pentru a dovedi faptul ca ei aveau credinta adevarata. Desi s-ar putea ca Satana sa urle de furie impotriva bisericii, Dumnezeu Isi realizeaza planurile Sale. Vezi comentariul de la Iacov 1,2; Apocalipsa 2,9.

Imparatul roman Traian (98–117 d.Hr.) a trasat prima politica romana oficiala fata de crestinism. In faimoasa lui scrisoare nouazeci si sapte, scrisa lui Pliniu cel Tanar, guvernatorul sau din Bitinia si Pont, in Asia Mica, Traian a schitat o procedura care arata cum trebuie sa fie tratati crestinii, care pe vremea aceea erau o societate religioasa ilegala. El le-a ordonat slujbasilor romani sa nu-i urmareasca pe crestini, ci daca oamenii erau adusi inaintea lor pentru alte vinovatii si se dovedea ca sunt crestini, ei trebuiau sa fie executati, cu exceptia cazului in care se lepadau de credinta. Reglementarea aceasta, desi n-a fost impusa uniform, a ramas ca lege pana cand, in 3131 d.Hr., Constantin a dat decretul sau de toleranta.

Astfel, timp de doua secole crestinii au fost supusi posibilitatii arestarii si mortii pe neasteptate pentru credinta lor. Bunastarea lor depindea in mare masura de favoarea vecinilor pagani si iudei, care puteau sa-i lase sa traiasca in pace sau puteau sa se planga impotriva lor. Aceasta poate fi denumita persecutie toleranta. Imparatul nu a luat initiativa persecutarii crestinilor, dar a permis reprezentantilor sai si autoritatilor locale sa ia impotriva crestinilor masurile pe care le considerau corespunzatoare. Politica aceasta i-a lasat pe crestini la bunul plac al diferitelor administratii locale sub care traiau. In deosebi in timp de foamete, cutremur, furtuna, sau alte catastrofe, crestinii erau obiectul atacului, vecinii lor pagani presupunand ca prin refuzul de a se inchina la zei crestinii atrasesera mania divina asupra intregii societati.

Totusi uneori conducerea romana s-a dedat la persecutie agresiva impotriva bisericii (vezi comentariul de la v. 9). Romanii care cugetau observau cum crestinii deveneau tot mai numerosi si influenti in tot cuprinsul imperiului si ca stilul lor de viata era cu totul incompatibil cu felul roman de vietuire. Prin urmare, s-a intamplat adesea ca imparatii cei mai capabili sa fie cei care persecutau biserica, in timp ce aceia care nu isi luau asa in serios raspunderile erau de obicei multumiti sa nu-i deranjeze pe crestini.

Prima persecutie generala si sistematica a bisericii a fost intreprinsa de imparatul Decius, al carui edict imperial din anul 250 decreta suprimarea universala a crestinismului cu ajutorul torturii, al mortii si al confiscarii averii. Momentul care a ocazionat acest decret a fost celebrarea unui mileniu de la fondarea Romei, cu vreo trei ani mai de vreme, cand, in comparatie cu maretia trecutului, starea decadenta a imperiului a devenit si mai aparenta. Crestinismul a ajuns tapul ispasitor si se pare ca motivul pentru care s-a hotarat desfiintarea bisericii a fost salvarea imperiului. Politica aceasta a pierdut din putere prin moartea lui Decius in anul 251 d.Hr., dar a fost reinviata de Valerian la scurt timp dupa aceea. O data cu moartea sa, politica aceasta si-a pierdut din nou din putere, si de abia in timpul domniei lui Diocletian a avut biserica de dat piept din nou cu o criza, de data asta mai mare (vezi mai jos, la ,,zece zile”).

Zece zile. Aceste cuvinte trebuie intelese in doua moduri. Pe baza principiului an-zi, de calculare a perioadelor de timp profetice (vezi comentariul de la Daniel 7,25), aceste zece zile au fost socotite o perioada de zece ani reali si s-a considerat ca este vorba de perioada de persecutie imperiala crunta, de la 303 la 313 d.Hr. In acest timp Diocletian, impreuna cu asociatul si succesorul sau, Galerius, a dus cea mai darza campanie de anihilare a crestinismului pe care a suferit-o acesta din partea romanilor pagani. Ca si Decius si Valerian, predecesori ai lor, acesti conducatori credeau ca biserica a ajuns la asa tarie si popularitate in imperiu incat daca crestinismul nu va fi anihilat cu promptitudine, cultura traditionala romana va inceta sa existe si imperiul insusi se va dezintegra. In consecinta, ei au inaugurat o politica care a avut ca scop exterminarea bisericii. Primul decret al lui Diocletian impotriva crestinilor a fost emis in anul 303, interzicand crestinismul din intregul imperiu.

Persecutia a inceput in armata si s-a raspandit in intreg imperiul. Autoritatile romane si-au concentrat pedepsele asupra clerului crestin, in credinta ca daca pastorii erau nimiciti, turma se va imprastia. Ororile acestei persecutii sunt viu descrise de istoriograful bisericesc Theodoret (Ecclesiastical History, i, 6), care descrie adunarea episcopilor bisericii la Sinodul de la Niceea, la cativa ani dupa sfarsitul persecutiei (anul 325 d.Hr.). Unii au venit fara ochi, altii fara brate, care fusesera le smulse din incheieturi, altii cu trupul mutilat in diferite feluri. Fireste ca multi nu au supravietuit acestui timp de necaz. In 313, dupa aproape zece ani de la inceputul acestei persecutii, Constantin a dat un decret prin care acorda crestinilor libertatea deplina de a-si practica religia.

Totusi altii considera ca nu e pe deplin sigura parerea ca cele ,,zece zile” erau intentionate sa reprezinte un timp profetic. Ei sustin ca deoarece cuvintele ,,ce ai sa suferi”, ,,diavolul”, ,,termina”, si ,,moarte” au sens propriu, este cat se poate de natural ca si cele ,,zece zile” sa fie literale. In cazul acesta numarul ,,zece” ar trebui considerat un numar rotund, asa cum se intampla de multe ori in Scriptura (vezi Eclesiastul 7,19; Isaia 5,10; Daniel 1,20; Amos 6,9; Hagai 2,16; Zaharia 8,23; Matei 25,1.28; Luca 15,8; etc.; compara cu Mishnah Aboth 5. 1–9). Ca numar rotund, ,,zece zile” ar reprezenta o scurta perioada de persecutie, pe care fara indoiala ca a suferit-o biserica literala Smirna, din timpurile apostolice. Ar fi cu totul in armonie cu principiile corecte de interpretare ale profetiei (vezi comentariul de la Deuteronom 18,15) ca cele ,,zece zile” sa aiba o aplicatie la situatia istorica imediata din Smirna si o aplicatie figurata, la perioada istorica reprezentata de biserica Smirna (vezi comentariul de la Apocalipsa 1,11; 2,1.8; vezi p. 725; Nota Suplimentara de la sfarsitul capitolului).

Fii credincios. Forma greaca a verbului cuprinde ideea de a ,,continua sa fii credincios”. Smirna s-a dovedit a fi o biserica credincioasa.

Pana la moarte. Versiunea greaca implica exprimarea ,,pana la moarte inclusiv”.

Cununa. Gr. stephanos, ,,cununa”, sau ,,ghirlanda, de victorie”, nu o diadema de conducator. Cuvantul acesta era folosit pentru cununile date castigatorilor la jocurile grecesti. Aici el este un simbol al rasplatii pe care o vor primi cei biruitori in lupta cu Satana.

Vietii. Sensul expresiei ,,coroana vietii” este probabil redat mai bine in exprimarea ,,coroana care este viata” – ,,coroana” este ,,viata”. Coroana aceasta este dovada biruintei asupra diavolului si asupra ,,necazului” pricinuit de el. Compara cu 2 Timotei 4,8.

Special note for ANDROID SmartPhones
I recommend to download PhoneMe emulator for Android from here. Especially I recommend phoneME Advanced - Foundation Profile + MIDP High Resolution b168 rev20547 from here, or from here.

Then you have to build your application, to transfer the .jar and .jad files on your mobile phone and run using this nice emulator.

1. Install a Zip Utility from Android Market.

2. Install a File Manager from Android Market.

3. Download and install PhoneMe, as mentioned above.

4. Build your application by using Download Multilingual Service or Dynamic Download (zip).

5. Copy the zip file into your Android Phone and unzip the content in a folder, and then write down the path to the unzipped files and the name of the .jad file.

6. Launch PhoneMe from your smartphone.

7. Inside PhoneMe, write to the main window the path and the name to the .jad file, above mentioned. Will look something like: file:///mnt/sd/download/BiblePhone.jad and then press enter.

8. The application will be installed, and next a hyperlink will be available below the above mentioned textbox. On this way you can install as many of MIDP application you like on your Android Phone.


How to install the application in Java Mobile enabled phones

It is possible now to have the Holy Scriptures on your mobile phone and to read it wherever you are due to the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) technology in 1.0 and 2.0 versions, developed for Java applications.

A good advice is to try in the beginning the MIDP 1.0 / 128 Kbytes version, and progressively to advance to MIDP 2.0 and larger volumes (512 Kbytes or more).

The application is available for MIDP 2.0, MIDP 1.0. You have only to select one table on the field MIDP2.0 or MIDP1.0, according to the desired Bible version. Then, you shall make a click on the JAR (Java Archive) file in order to obtain the software to be installed on your mobile phone.

I recommend you to start with STARTER(MIDP1.0old) edition, then to continue with INTERMEDIATE(MIDP1.0), and in the end, if the mobile phone supports this thing, to try to install the ADVANCED (MIDP2.0) edition. Also, start with 128 kbytes volumes, continue with 512 kbytes, and at the end try the version in one file.

There are cases where the mobile phone requires so called JAD (Java Descriptor) files. These JAD files has to be uploaded, on this case, together with the desired JAR files(s).

There are different methods to download the applications in your mobile phone as follows:
1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone
3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone
4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
5. If none from the above cases are valid

Next, we shall examine each case in order to have a successfully installation of the software.


1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
 

If your have Internet access on your mobile phone (e.g. WAP or GPRS), it is enough to access https://biblephone.intercer.net/wap/  from the browser of the mobile phone, and to access the desired Bible version, and then to make an option about MIDP1.0 or MIDP2.0, and finally to select the desired module (e.g. one or more). After the last selection, the desired version will be downloaded on your mobile phone.

Many phones have only this option for installing JAVA appplications.

2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone

Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile phones.

If you don't have access to Internet directly from your mobile phone, then you shall have to pass to this step requiring to have infrared ports on your mobile phone and on the computer.
a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have to activate the infrared port on the mobile phone and align it with the infrared port of the computer (preferable laptop).

c. Then a window will appear asking what file you want to send to the mobile phone. Next, you will select the downloaded JAR file, and after OK, the mobile phone will ask you if you want to load that file. You say YES and the application will be downloaded on your mobile phone.
d. Probably, you will be asked by the mobile phone where you want to save it (e.g. on the games or applications directories). After you made this selection, the file will be ready to be loaded for run.
The displaying preference can be set inside the application in order to have larger fonts, full screen display etc.

3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone

Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile phones.
This situation is similar with the infrared case. You have only to activate Bluetooth access on your mobile phone (check if exists) and on the computer (check if exists).

4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile phones.
On this case the steps are as follows:

a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have to set up the wired connection between the mobile phone and the computer. Next, you will start the synchronization / data transfer application and download the JAR file in your mobile phone. Surely, you will have to consult the CD of your mobile phone.
c. By this application you shall transfer into your mobile phone the JAR file in the games or applications directories. Next, you will have to select for run the JAR desired file.

5. If none from the above cases are valid
On this unhappy case, I recommend you to find a friend with a laptop having infrared / Bluetooth capabilities, or to buy a data link cable, or to change your current model of mobile phone.
Unfortunately, some models of mobile phones require only WAP/GPRS in order to download and run Java applications.


Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile phones. Therefore check the documentation of them and also the page for specific models.

Why so many versions? Simple, because not all the mobile phones support the Bible in one file with MIDP 2.0 (the most advanced for the time being).
