57:1 6. PUTEREA VOTULUI 57:2 Raspunderea noastra de cetateni. - Desi nu este intelept sa ne implicam in chestiunile politice, este totusi privilegiul nostru de a lua o pozitie hotarata fata de toate problemele legate de reforma temperantei. Referitor la acest lucru, eu am avut adeseori o marturie clara. Intr-un articol publicat in Review, la 8 noiembrie 1881, am scris: 57:3 "Exista o cauza a paraliziei morale din societatea noastra. Legile actuale sprijina un rau care le macina propria temelie. Multi deplang relele pe care le stiu ca exista dar se considera liberi de orice raspundere in aceasta privinta. Asa ceva nu se poate. Fiecare individ exercita o influenta in societate." 57:4 Fiecare votant are cuvantul lui. - "In tara noastra binecuvantata, fiecare votant are un cuvant in stabilirea legilor care vor controla natiunea. Sa nu fie aceasta influenta si acest vot puse de partea temperantei si a virtutii?" 57:5 "Putem apela la partizanii cauzei temperantei pentru a ni se alia in lupta noastra si a incerca sa respingem valul de rau ce degradeaza moralul lumii; dar cat de valabile sunt toate eforturile noastre atata vreme cat comertul cu alcool este sprijinit de lege? Trebuie ca blestemul alcoolismului sa ramana pentru totdeauna o pata pentru tara noastra? Trebuie ca el sa demoleze, asemeni unui foc mistuitor, multe mii de camine fericite?" 57:6 Prin cuvant, prin scris si prin vot. - Vorbim de efecte, ne cutremuram fata de ele si ne intrebam ce putem face, in vreme ce prea adesea toleram si chiar autorizam cauza acestora. Aparatorii temperantei nu vor reusi sa-si faca pe deplin datoria, daca nu-si vor exercita influenta prin sfat si exemplu - prin cuvant, prin scris si prin vot - In favoarea prohibitiei si a abstinentei totale. Nu trebuie sa ne 57:7 asteptam ca Domnul sa faca o minune pentru realizarea acestei reforme, anuland astfel necesitatea lucrarii noastre. Noi insine trebuie sa ne luptam cu acest inamic urias, avand drept motto: "Fara compromis si fara intrerupere, pana la obtinerea biruintei." - Review and Herald, 15 octombrie 1914 (citat in Gospel Workers, pag. 387, 388). 57:8 Alegerea oamenilor potriviti. - Oamenii necumpatati nu trebuie sa fie, prin votul poporului, pusi in pozitii de incredere. - Signs of the Times, 8 iulie 1880. 57:9 La cheremul oamenilor necumpatati. - Sunt votati in functii multi oameni ale caror minti sunt lipsite de deplina lor vigoare, prin ingaduinta fata de bauturile alcoolice, sau sunt constant amortite de folosirea tutunului... Linistea fericitelor familii, reputatia, averea, libertatea si chiar viata ni se afla la cheremul unor oameni necumpatati, alesi in camerele noastre legislative si in curtile de justitie. 57:10 Dedandu-se ei insisi la ingaduinta apetitului, multi dintre cei care erau candva drepti si buni isi pierd integritatea si dragostea fata de semenii lor, unindu-se cu cei necinstiti si destrabalati, adoptandu-le pozitia si impartasindu-le vina. 57:11 Sacra prerogativa de cetatean compromisa. - Cat de multi isi compromit prerogativa de cetateni ai republicii, fiind mituiti cu un pahar de whisky sa-si dea votul pentru vreun candidat nepotrivit! Ca patura sociala, cei necumpatati nu vor pregeta sa intrebuinteze inselaciunea, mituirea si chiar violenta impotriva celor care refuza admiterea libertatii apetitului pervertit. - Review and Herald, 8 noiembrie 1881. 57:12 Raspunderea cetatenilor pasivi. - Multi isi predau propria influenta marelui nimicitor, ajutandu-l, prin cuvant si vot, la distrugerea chipului moral al lui Dumnezeu in om, fara sa se 57:13 gandeasca la familiile decazute din cauza unui apetit stricat pentru alcool. - Manuscris 87, 1898. 57:14 Iar cei care, prin voturile lor, autorizeaza comertul cu alcool vor avea de dat socoteala pentru raul facut de oamenii aflati sub puternica influenta a bauturilor tari. - Scrisoarea 243 a, 1905. 57:15 Pionierii nostri ajung sa ia o decizie importanta [Nota: La inceputul verii lui 1881, la adunarea in aer liber de la Des Moines, Iowa, delegatilor li s-a prezentat o rezolutie care declara: 57:16 "Hotaram: de a ne exprima profundul interes fata de miscarea pentru temperanta care se desfasoara in acest stat; si de a indica pastorilor nostri sa-si foloseasca intreaga influenta in comunitati si in afara lor pentru a-i determina pe oameni sa depuna substantiale eforturi, prin lucrare personala si la urna de vot, in favoarea amendamentului constitutional pentru prohibitie, pe care partizanii temperantei cauta sa-l instituie. - Review and Herald, 5 iulie 1881. 57:17 Dar unii au obiectat fata de clauza care cerea actionarea "la urna de vot", solicitand desfiintarea ei. Ellen White, care a participat la acea adunare in aer liber, se retrasese, dar a fost rugata sa dea un sfat. 57:18 Scriind despre aceasta la acea vreme, ea relateaza: "M-am intors si am vazut ca trebuia sa vorbesc referitor la problema daca poporul nostru trebuia sa voteze pentru prohibitie. Le-am spus 'Da' si am vorbit vreme de douazeci de minute." - Scrisoarea 6, 1881.] - [Fragment din jurnalul din 1859 al lui Ellen White]. "Participat seara la adunare. O intalnire libera si foarte interesanta. Dupa ce a sosit timpul de incheiere, s-a abordat problema votului si s-a zabovit asupra ei. A vorbit mai intai James, apoi fratele Andrews si amandoi au considerat ca lucrul cel mai bun era sa se ia atitudine in favoarea binelui si impotriva raului si ca este drept sa voteze oameni cumpatati pentru a conduce orasul nostru, in loc ca tacerea lor sa favorizeze alegerea unor oameni necumpatati. Fratele Hewett isi povesteste experienta avuta cu cateva zile mai inainte si stabileste faptul ca este corect sa-si dea votul. Fratele Hart vorbeste bine. Fratele Lyon nu este de acord. Nimeni nu mai are obiectii impotriva votarii, si fratele Kellog incepe sa simta ca este corect. O stare placuta incepe sa se faca simtita printre toti fratii. O, de-ar putea sa actioneze toti in temere de Dumnezeu! 57:19 "Oameni care promovau consumul de alcool au venit azi la mine exprimandu-si plini de curtoazie aprecierea fata de pazitorii Sabatului, ca nu au votat, si speranta ca isi vor mentine pozitia si, asemeni quakerilor, nu vor fi pentru prohibitie. Satana si ingerii lui rai sunt ocupati la aceasta ora si au lucratorii lor pe pamant. Rugaciunea mea este ca el sa fie deceptionat, in aceasta privinta." - Jurnalul lui Ellen G. White, duminica, 6 martie 1859. 57:20 Lectia imparatiilor antice. - Prosperitatea unei natiuni depinde de virtutea si inteligenta cetatenilor ei. Pentru asigurarea acestor doua binecuvantari, obiceiurile strictei temperante sunt indispensabile. Istoria imparatiilor din vechime este plina de lectii-avertisment pentru noi. Luxul, ingaduirea de sine si risipa pregatesc calea caderii. Ramane de vazut daca tara noastra va fi pusa in garda de exemplul lor si le va evita soarta. - Gospel Workers, pag. 388. |

Special note for ANDROID SmartPhones
I recommend to download PhoneMe emulator for Android from here.
Especially I recommend phoneME Advanced - Foundation Profile + MIDP High Resolution b168 rev20547 from here, or from here.
Then you have to build your application, to transfer the .jar and .jad files on your mobile phone and run using this nice emulator.
1. Install a Zip Utility from Android Market.
2. Install a File Manager from Android Market.
3. Download and install PhoneMe, as mentioned above.
4. Build your application by using Download Multilingual Service or Dynamic Download (zip).
5. Copy the zip file into your Android Phone and unzip the content in a folder, and then write down the path to the unzipped files and the name of the .jad file.
6. Launch PhoneMe from your smartphone.
7. Inside PhoneMe, write to the main window the path and the name to the .jad file, above mentioned. Will look something like: file:///mnt/sd/download/BiblePhone.jad and then press enter.
8. The application will be installed, and next a hyperlink will be available below the above mentioned textbox. On this way you can install as many of MIDP application you like on your Android Phone.
How to install the application in Java Mobile enabled phones
It is possible now to have the Holy Scriptures on your mobile phone and to read
it wherever you are due to the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP)
technology in 1.0 and 2.0 versions, developed for Java applications.
A good advice is to try in the beginning the MIDP 1.0 / 128 Kbytes version, and
progressively to advance to MIDP 2.0 and larger volumes (512 Kbytes or more).
The application is available for MIDP 2.0, MIDP 1.0. You have only to select one
table on the field MIDP2.0 or MIDP1.0, according to the desired Bible version.
Then, you shall make a click on the JAR (Java Archive) file in order to obtain
the software to be installed on your mobile phone.
I recommend you to start with STARTER(MIDP1.0old) edition, then to continue with
INTERMEDIATE(MIDP1.0), and in the end, if the mobile phone supports this thing,
to try to install the ADVANCED (MIDP2.0) edition. Also, start with 128 kbytes
volumes, continue with 512 kbytes, and at the end try the version in one file.
There are cases where the mobile phone requires so called JAD (Java Descriptor)
files. These JAD files has to be
uploaded, on this case, together with the desired JAR files(s).
There are different methods to download the applications in your mobile phone as
follows:
1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone
3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone
4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
5. If none from the above cases are valid
Next, we shall examine each case in order to have a successfully installation of
the software.
1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
If your have Internet access on your mobile phone (e.g. WAP or GPRS), it is
enough to access
https://biblephone.intercer.net/wap/ from the browser of the mobile phone,
and to access the desired Bible version, and then to make an option about
MIDP1.0 or MIDP2.0, and finally to select the desired module (e.g. one or more).
After the last selection, the desired version will be downloaded on your mobile
phone.
Many phones have only this option for installing JAVA appplications.
2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones.
If you don't have access to Internet directly from your mobile phone, then you
shall have to pass to this step requiring to have infrared ports on your mobile
phone and on the computer.
a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from
the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have
to activate the infrared port on the mobile phone and align it with the infrared
port of the computer (preferable laptop).
c. Then a window will appear asking what file you want to send to the mobile
phone. Next, you will select the downloaded JAR file, and after OK, the mobile
phone will ask you if you want to load that file. You say YES and the
application will be downloaded on your mobile phone.
d. Probably, you will be asked by the mobile phone where you want to save it (e.g.
on the games or applications directories). After you made this selection, the
file will be ready to be loaded for run.
The displaying preference can be set inside the application in order to have
larger fonts, full screen display etc.
3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones.
This situation is similar with the infrared case. You have only to activate
Bluetooth access on your mobile phone (check if exists) and on the computer (check
if exists).
4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific
mobile phones.
On this case the steps are as follows:
a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from
the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have
to set up the wired connection between the mobile phone and the computer. Next,
you will start the synchronization / data transfer application and download the
JAR file in your mobile phone. Surely, you will have to consult the CD of your
mobile phone.
c. By this application you shall transfer into your mobile phone the JAR file in
the games or applications directories. Next, you will have to select for run the
JAR desired file.
5. If none from the above cases are valid
On this unhappy case, I recommend you to find a friend with a laptop having
infrared / Bluetooth capabilities, or to buy a data link cable, or to change
your current model of mobile phone.
Unfortunately, some models of mobile phones require only WAP/GPRS in order to
download and run Java applications.
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones. Therefore check the documentation of them and also the page for specific
models.
Why so many versions? Simple, because not all the mobile phones support the
Bible in one file with MIDP 2.0 (the most advanced for the time being).
