2:1 Contextul istoric in care a fost scris volumul IV 2:2 Cele cinci brosuri care compun volumul 4 al Marturiilor pentru Comunitate traverseaza o perioada de sapte ani, din 1875 pana in 1881. Acestia au fost ultimii sapte ani ai vietii lui James White. Activitatea bisericii intrase intr-o etapa de rapida extindere. James si Ellen White calatoreau mult, scriind si activand neobositi in lucrarea publica si in cadrul intalnirilor personale. Ei se confruntau cu problemele unei lucrari care se extindea acum si la nivel institutional. 2:3 Lucrarea misionara in Europa progresa, alti lucratori fiind trimisi in 1876 sa i se alature lui J. Andrews. Viziunea cuprinzatoare data la Battle Creek la 3 ianuarie 1875, care formeaza baza a mai mult de jumatate din volumul 4, a condus catre o mai buna intelegere a caracterului mondial al lucrarii noastre. 2:4 Pe Coasta Pacificului, activitatea denominatiunii se dezvolta rapid. S-au consolidat bazele recent aparutei reviste Sings of the Times, iar in 1875 a fost infiintata, in Oakland, Pacific Press, a doua casa de editura a adventistilor de ziua a saptea. Aceasta a devenit in curand cea mai mare si mai bine echipata institutie editoriala de pe Coasta Pacificului. In 1878, langa St. Helena, in California de Nord, si-a inceput activitatea al doilea sanatoriu apartinand bisericii. 2:5 Date fiind facilitatile de publicare, literatura noastra a inceput sa se dezvolte rapid, astfel ca, la sfarsitul perioadei in care a fost scris volumul 4, includea titluri ca Explicarea lui Daniel si a Apocalipsei, de Uriah Smith, Istoria Sabatului, de J.N. Andrews, precum si un numar de lucrari de o mai mica importanta despre sanatate, subiecte religioase, temperanta si teme de interes pentru copii. Planuri pentru o distribuire mai sistematica a literaturii au fost materializate o data cu angajarea colportorilor permanenti care sa mearga din casa in casa pentru a vinde cartile noastre pline de adevaruri pretioase. Infiintarea si functionarea societatilor misionare si de tractate, sub conducerea lui S.N. Haskell, au constituit un moment important in distribuirea libera a literaturii de catre laici. 2:6 Volumul 4 acopera o perioada caracterizata prin mari intalniri de tabara ale adventistilor de ziua a saptea. Dupa primele adunari tinute in 1868, au urmat altele, sustinute de un entuziasm sporit. Dupa zece ani, abia daca mai exista vreo conferinta a unui stat care sa nu fi avut intalniri anuale in timpul verii. Locurile erau bine alese si se facea, de asemenea, o buna publicitate. Prezentarea activitatii adventistilor de ziua a saptea in presa a inceput tot cu ocazia eforturilor concertate in vederea organizarii acestor mari adunari de tabara. S-au depus eforturi considerabile pentru ca aceste adunari sa fie de un inalt standard, procurandu-se hrana buna si prezentandu-se un mesaj clar, patrunzator. Asemenea adunari, care durau cinci, sase sau sapte zile si la care, in cursul saptamanii, participau cateva sute de adventisti, urmau sa se incheie la sfarsitul saptamanii cu un auditoriu neadventist care se ridica la mai multe mii. Apogeul interesului manifestat in cursul unor astfel de adunari a fost atins in 1876 cand, in Groveland, Massachusetts, o suburbie a Bostonului, douazeci de mii de persoane s-au inghesuit pe terenul adunarii in duminica din 27 august. Ellen White a vorbit unui auditoriu atent, format din cincisprezece mii de persoane in aceeasi dupa-amiaza. 2:7 Lucrarea de temperanta a fost, de asemenea, in atentie in perioada in care a fost scris volumul 4. Adventistii de ziua a saptea, avand-o pe Ellen White printre vorbitorii lor de frunte, s-au aflat in avangarda, adesea asociindu-se cu organizatii de temperanta deja constituite. Modul practic in care ei au actionat pentru a stavili curentul necumpatarii este descris de E. White in capitolul "Experienta si activitati", aflat in mijlocul acestui volum. 2:8 La centrul lucrarii, in Battle Creek, s-a desfasurat o activitate intensa in ultimii ani ai deceniului al optulea. Aceasta noua biserica, construita si pentru a gazdui sesiunile Conferintei Generale, a fost numita "Tabernacolul celor zece centi", deoarece fiecare membru al bisericii, de pe tot cuprinsul tarii, a fost rugat sa contribuie cu macar zece centi la construirea ei. A fost inaltata intre birourile revistei Review si Herald si sanatoriu, in fata unui minunat parc. Au fost construite si date in folosinta noi si mult mai mari cladiri ale sanatoriului. Tot in acel timp, 2:9 lucrarea medicala a devenit mai puternica datorita medicilor pregatiti in aceasta specialitate in cele mai bune scoli de medicina din tara si care au venit si s-au implicat in aceasta importanta lucrare la Battle Creek. Revista de sanatate a bisericii, Good Health, s-a bucurat de "cea mai mare circulatie pe care a avut-o vreo revista de sanatate in America". Sediul Review and Herald a devenit "cea mai mare si mai bine echipata casa de editura si tipografie" din statul Michigan. Activitatea recent infiintatului Colegiu din Battle Creek a facut progrese hotarate, astfel ca, la inceputul anului 1881, s-au inscris aproape cinci sute de studenti. 2:10 De-a lungul acestor ani, James si Ellen White au locuit fie in Michigan, fie in California, pentru cateva luni, insa, putand fi gasiti si in Texas. Ceva mai tarziu, Ellen White a facut o calatorie mai lunga catre nord-vestul Coastei Pacificului. Ei s-au intors inapoi la Battle Creek in 1881, an in care a murit James White. 2:11 Acestea sunt cateva dintre evenimentele care s-au petrecut in timpul care este acoperit de volumul 4. De-a lungul intregii carti, intalnim sfaturi si instructiuni care sunt in stransa legatura cu toate aceste directii de dezvoltare rapida a lucrarii. Dar accentul, in cele 657 de pagini ale volumului, este pus pe instructiunile referitoare la experienta personala a lucratorilor si a membrilor bisericii. Intr-adevar, activitatea in expansiune a unei biserici aflate intr-o crestere rapida a necesitat si a primit o coordonare atenta. Dar activitatile administrative s-au aflat pe locul al doilea in raport cu experienta personala a conducatorilor si a membrilor bisericii. Pentru ca a avea grija de actiunile bisericii ar insemna doar sa mentii o masinarie in stare de functionare, daca experienta spirituala a adventistilor de ziua a saptea ar decade la nivelul unui simplu formalism. Biserica trebuie pastrata curata, standardele sale inalte, membrii sai activi si bucurandu-se in fiecare zi de o experienta personala cu Dumnezeu. 2:12 Nu este de mirare deci, ca o mare parte a volumului 4 se ocupa de subiecte practice cum ar fi: "Apetitul", "Disciplina in familie", "Stapanirea de sine", "Integritate in afaceri", "Sfintenia juruintelor", "Casatorii nebiblice", "Simplitatea in imbracaminte", "Iubirea de lume", "Pregatirea pentru venirea lui Hristos" si multe 2:13 astfel de subiecte de o importanta vitala. Acestea au fost cateva dintre mesajele care au servit la reformarea, corectarea si purificarea bisericii in acesti ani de inceput. Deoarece adventistii de ziua a saptea trebuie sa lupte cu aceleasi ispite si sa intalneasca aceleasi probleme si experiente astazi, aceste articole inspirate trebuie citite si recitite cu seriozitate, iar sfaturile si avertizarile lor ascultate, astfel ca scopul pe care Dumnezeu l-a avut in vedere, trimitand aceste instructiuni pentru a intari si incuraja biserica, sa-si poata atinge implinirea. 2:14 Institutul pentru studiul scrierilor E.G. Special note for ANDROID SmartPhones
I recommend to download PhoneMe emulator for Android from here.
Especially I recommend phoneME Advanced - Foundation Profile + MIDP High Resolution b168 rev20547 from here, or from here.
Then you have to build your application, to transfer the .jar and .jad files on your mobile phone and run using this nice emulator.
1. Install a Zip Utility from Android Market.
2. Install a File Manager from Android Market.
3. Download and install PhoneMe, as mentioned above.
4. Build your application by using Download Multilingual Service or Dynamic Download (zip).
5. Copy the zip file into your Android Phone and unzip the content in a folder, and then write down the path to the unzipped files and the name of the .jad file.
6. Launch PhoneMe from your smartphone.
7. Inside PhoneMe, write to the main window the path and the name to the .jad file, above mentioned. Will look something like: file:///mnt/sd/download/BiblePhone.jad and then press enter.
8. The application will be installed, and next a hyperlink will be available below the above mentioned textbox. On this way you can install as many of MIDP application you like on your Android Phone.
How to install the application in Java Mobile enabled phones
It is possible now to have the Holy Scriptures on your mobile phone and to read
it wherever you are due to the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP)
technology in 1.0 and 2.0 versions, developed for Java applications.
A good advice is to try in the beginning the MIDP 1.0 / 128 Kbytes version, and
progressively to advance to MIDP 2.0 and larger volumes (512 Kbytes or more).
The application is available for MIDP 2.0, MIDP 1.0. You have only to select one
table on the field MIDP2.0 or MIDP1.0, according to the desired Bible version.
Then, you shall make a click on the JAR (Java Archive) file in order to obtain
the software to be installed on your mobile phone.
I recommend you to start with STARTER(MIDP1.0old) edition, then to continue with
INTERMEDIATE(MIDP1.0), and in the end, if the mobile phone supports this thing,
to try to install the ADVANCED (MIDP2.0) edition. Also, start with 128 kbytes
volumes, continue with 512 kbytes, and at the end try the version in one file.
There are cases where the mobile phone requires so called JAD (Java Descriptor)
files. These JAD files has to be
uploaded, on this case, together with the desired JAR files(s).
There are different methods to download the applications in your mobile phone as
follows:
1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone
3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone
4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
5. If none from the above cases are valid
Next, we shall examine each case in order to have a successfully installation of
the software.
1. Directly from Internet by using a WAP or GPRS connection
If your have Internet access on your mobile phone (e.g. WAP or GPRS), it is
enough to access
https://biblephone.intercer.net/wap/ from the browser of the mobile phone,
and to access the desired Bible version, and then to make an option about
MIDP1.0 or MIDP2.0, and finally to select the desired module (e.g. one or more).
After the last selection, the desired version will be downloaded on your mobile
phone.
Many phones have only this option for installing JAVA appplications.
2. By using the infrared port of the mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones.
If you don't have access to Internet directly from your mobile phone, then you
shall have to pass to this step requiring to have infrared ports on your mobile
phone and on the computer.
a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from
the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have
to activate the infrared port on the mobile phone and align it with the infrared
port of the computer (preferable laptop).
c. Then a window will appear asking what file you want to send to the mobile
phone. Next, you will select the downloaded JAR file, and after OK, the mobile
phone will ask you if you want to load that file. You say YES and the
application will be downloaded on your mobile phone.
d. Probably, you will be asked by the mobile phone where you want to save it (e.g.
on the games or applications directories). After you made this selection, the
file will be ready to be loaded for run.
The displaying preference can be set inside the application in order to have
larger fonts, full screen display etc.
3. By wireless Bluetooth access to the mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones.
This situation is similar with the infrared case. You have only to activate
Bluetooth access on your mobile phone (check if exists) and on the computer (check
if exists).
4. By cable link between PC ad mobile phone
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific
mobile phones.
On this case the steps are as follows:
a. On this case, you will download the application by using the computer from
the Internet (i.e. JAR files).
b. Once the application is downloaded (preferable on the desktop) you will have
to set up the wired connection between the mobile phone and the computer. Next,
you will start the synchronization / data transfer application and download the
JAR file in your mobile phone. Surely, you will have to consult the CD of your
mobile phone.
c. By this application you shall transfer into your mobile phone the JAR file in
the games or applications directories. Next, you will have to select for run the
JAR desired file.
5. If none from the above cases are valid
On this unhappy case, I recommend you to find a friend with a laptop having
infrared / Bluetooth capabilities, or to buy a data link cable, or to change
your current model of mobile phone.
Unfortunately, some models of mobile phones require only WAP/GPRS in order to
download and run Java applications.
Sometimes there is a need for a special uploader software for specific mobile
phones. Therefore check the documentation of them and also the page for specific
models.
Why so many versions? Simple, because not all the mobile phones support the
Bible in one file with MIDP 2.0 (the most advanced for the time being).
